The sample epub chapters set an interesting alt world. I'm not sure my questions matter to the plot. It seems pre-technology;the kitchen water-crank for example. It seems centaurs rule rather benevolently; I wonder why they'd bother, what do they get from the deal?
Your reference to the Jacquard loom and 'computers' seemed anachronistic; are centaurs deliberately keeping tech from humans? The schoolteacher seemed thrilled to get a gift abacus; if he keeps financial records it's useful.
