From what I recall after talking with her. She had them cross rigged with the connection being just above her ankle (foreleg) and rear hoof on the opposite side hind leg. From watching her she had a basic articulated joint at the knee (but not full motion at the rear hip). Moving forward her own leg "pulled" the oppsite leg forward, and be leaning forward slighly it cleard the ground. Friction then allowed it to "move" back as she stepped on the opposite side.
It was based on a bustle desing so she could by leaning forward actually elevate both hind legs when she needed to move a bit more quickly.
The rest was just lots of practice learning the proper stride/gait and moving at that speed.
