RJ was brought up on an island far from mainstream civilisation. The island was a secret from the outside world, protected by a barrier to keep outsiders out... or perhaps it was to keep the insiders in. The latter may have been the better choice because of RJ's heritage. She may not look it, but she is an Elementalist, one of only 6 which are born every thousand years. Unfortunately, the lifespan of an Elementalist is only 20 years. After that, it is speculated that the Elementalist's chosen element will swallow them up as a sacrifice, allowing peace and order to continue on.

One day towards RJ's 17th birthday, the barrier was torn down by a powerful force, and she was found to be missing. The others had always thought she had been the least powerful of the 6... but whatever it was, the disappearance of the barrier allowed RJ and the other Elementalists to travel to the mainland. RJ has found this place outside to be a curiousity, and has taken to it quite quickly, especially under the guidance of her new friends, Rapture and Cherry. Although, the two are quite unaware of who RJ really is.

-Personality-

RJ is a bit of a spontaneous squirrel in many ways. Her behaviour leads many to think she is immature and lacking in intelligence, but more than once RJ will do or say something that will make you re-think.

It can seem that there are two of RJ sometimes- there’s the first RJ that has a flashy happy-go-lucky exterior, and then there’s the other RJ that doesn’t appear very often and is solemn and secretive despite the fact that she seems very honest.

RJ hates to see people in need and tries her best to help. She is more than happy to go along with someone’s request if it is possible. More than once her caring nature has tried to be exploited, but RJ knows when she is being played and somehow always manages to get out of uncomfortable situations. She will also disappear at times to places unknown and then randomly appear once more, acting like she never left.

For no apparent reason, RJ seems to have a lot of good luck, unfortunately karma likes to kick in after a while and give her a big dose of the opposite. RJ has a sea of optimism though and never lets anything get the better of her. Also, RJ is actually pretty shy, until you get to know her, in which case you'll find yourself subject to her strange and insane ways... which includes her terrible and infamous cooking, which includes exploding muffins.

• RJ loves to say ‘Squee’ a lot, mostly when she sees something cute.
• The Joybringer family has always had at least one Elementalist for each generation of Elementalists born.
• RJ’s bonded element is water, hence her name 'Raine'.
• Although being 'bonded' to water, she is able to use any of the other 5 elements.
• RJ doesn't like cold weather.
• The jester hat she wears was a gift from her fellow Elementalist Shaddel, who collects hats.
• RJ has a brother called Blaze, and although they were born on the same day, RJ always calls him her big brother.

-A little insight into RJ from the creator-

Hm... RJ... now there's an interesting story! RJ was created through a combination of two characters, a strange idea, and a fun online program called 'Furcadia'. The first character was myself, and how I drew myself on paper, with the flippy hair, jester hat, and cool shirt. Then there was Random Joy, my little 'shoulder angel' who also doubled as my online persona while I was on Neopets. The Neopets RJ starred in many comics, and as you can tell, squirrel RJ kept most of her personality and the funky jeans.

The strange idea happened when one day I wondered what kind of Neopet human RJ would be if she were turned into one. I decided on a Meerca for some reason, maybe it was the tail or the fluffiness... I don't know. But anyway, one day I was introduced to the online program, Furcadia, where you create your own animal avatar, and you walk around and talk to people. Since Meerca wasn't really an animal, I chose a squirrel instead (although at the time, squirrel wasn't on the menu. They made it later though). I wanted to draw what my avatar would look like, so I did just that... and I got unusual results... the first squirrel RJ had blonde hair, green eyes, coffee-coloured fur, and also a tiny set of wings. She had the clothes though, which I'm glad have stayed (I'm proud to say I have RJ's actual hat somewhere in my closet).

I'm not sure exactly how I just jumped one day from that first squirrel RJ to the current one... I guess it's just like what I said in her personality- she just pops up sometimes. She just appeared one day and I thought 'Now wow, that's RJ...'. RJ had to have a proper name, I decided. After long deliberation, I thought 'Raine Joybringer' would be best. And I guess you can say that that's it... It didn't feel like creating her exactly- it was more like finding her.
