World of Confusion
arranged by Terry Knight

Sung to the tune of "Land of Confusion" by Genesis

Open with JOHN PALMER and ESMERELDA BRAITHWAITE sitting up in bed together in a dimly lit room at night, watching with horror news reports of September 11. Plane impacts, fires burning, towers collapsing. Footage from street level of the dust from the collapse sweeping up a New York street.

I must have dreamed a hundred dreams
Been haunted by six thousand screams
And I still hear the running feet
Escaping into the street

News bulletins of attacks, bomb alerts, and anthrax warnings. Cut to scenes of "Ground Zero" with smoke still rising.

And did you see the news today
Bombs and plague to come our way
And I can see the fire's still alight
They're burning all through the night

Random shots of world leaders, riots, demonstrations, and tanks patrolling Israeli streets. Videos of missile attacks, aircraft launching from carrier decks, burning effigies, protests, and banner waving.

There's too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And there's not much love to go 'round
Can't you see this is a world of confusion
And this is the land we live in
And these are the hands we're given
Stand up and let's start trying
To make this a place worth living in

Alternating clips of news bulletins featuring SUPER COLLIE and DAUGHTER NIGHT with clips of BIG BAD WOLF pressing a buzzer on the desk and KATAKANA KAT silently entering his office with an evil look on his face.

Oh Super Collie, where are you now?
Has Daughter Night gone mad somehow?
And men of greed who have dark power
Are taking control by the hour

ESMERELDA clasps her pendant in both hands, eyes closed and head bowed. Slowly she looks up, opening her eyes, an expression of determination on her face. She realizes what she must do.

This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
And there's not much love to go round
Tell me why this is a world of confusion
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make this a place worth fighting for

Dissolve flashback style to an aerial view of JOHN and ESMERELDA lying together on a blanket on top of the roof of an apartment block on a summer night. It's a romantic evening under a full moon; the lovers snuggle into each other [fully clothed] while bathed in moonlight.

It wasn't long ago
Oh when the stars were shining
And the moon was bright
All through the night
With the sound of your laughter
As I held you tight
Not long ago

During the instrumental ESMERELDA quietly gets out of the bed she is sharing with JOHN. Cut to show her fully dressed. She places an note into an envelope and leaves it on the pillow next to JOHN. After kissing him on the cheek she leaves the apartment, finds an alcove, and pulls her pendant from inside her blouse. Cut to showy transformation sequence of ESMERELDA becoming SUPER COLLIE, who leaps out through a convenient fire escape and bounds away over the rooftops. Cut to JOHN reaching sleepily for ESMERELDA and finding the envelope instead. Fast alternating cuts between SUPER COLLIE running and a close up of JOHN's shocked face. Pullback to see JOHN sitting on the side of the bed, reading the note. It finishes "... I'll come back to you soon, my love - E."

She won't be coming home tonight
I know my Essie will put things right
I know she won't make promises
That she'll know she'll never keep

Action shots of SUPER COLLIE in combat with random bad guys. They come at her from all directions but it's apparent she has the measure of them.

So this is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
And there's not much love to go round
Tell me why this is a world of confusion
And these are the hands we're given
Use them and let's start trying
To make this a land worth fighting for

Finish with stirring 'heroic' shot of Super Collie standing proudly before a large billowing New Zealand flag, wind blowing her cape and mane behind her.

The End
