China comes up with the strangest gadgets but this one is interesting. The Solar MP4 player is a PMP capable of playing the usual audio and video formats, equaliser, display images and read text files with text-to-speech, microphone with recording ability as well as having a built-in NES and GB/GBC emulators. But the main feature is a solar panel that can not only charge its own internal battery but be used to charge other portable devices, like mobile phones, laptops (yeh?), digital cameras etc. The concept would be awesome if it works. Hopefully a roadtest will come soon to find out if this is actually a useful gadget or more random gadget junk from China.

Having finally bought a 360 I can now play Oblivion and Halo 3, but not only that, I got Viva Pinata, Forza 2 and F.E.A.R. with the console, and yesterday, I went out and bought the Half-life 2 Orange Box. Not bad for a brand new console with six games to play straight away! Now I just need time to sit back and play all these new games - I still have some Xbox O games I've bought and haven't played yet! Hard to balance work, art and gaming time when there is so much gaming goodness to be had.

This incudes the new 360 console with the larger heatsink and HD port, 20Gb hard drive, wireless controller and media remote and Viva Pinata and Forza 2. Not only is this $40 AUD cheaper the Microsoft's RRP, but I also get F.E.A.R. thrown in as well. I went out and bought one. Now it's on my desk, spooning with my Xbox O.

But now he has aquired the arcade machine from The Last StarFighter - considered by some to be the Holy Grail among movie arcde units. The unit is a recreation of the original prop, built for the DVD documentary. You can even download the game itself to play on your MAME system. Awesome! I've always wanted to get my paws on that game - and thanks to some fans, its now a real working game.

Chumby is an odd little wi-fi device that is like a cuddly, Internet-enabled, alarm clock. The device is basicly a huggable pocket PC with touch and motion sensors. By using a wireless network, and the website, you can load it with widgets that can display news, clocks, games, movies, photos and more whenever you want or on a schedule. Its about the size of a mug and can sit beside your bed or on your desk. Unfortunately, its always on, it has no standby mode and requires a wireless network to be of any use. But if you have all of the above, one of these can be yours for $200 USD.

After alot of rumour and speculation, it is confirmed that Halo DS does exist - but it won't be for sale. The game was written as an advanced concept by a group of porgrammers outside Bungie. Unfortunately because it wasn't written by Bungie and the DS is not Microsoft, Halo DS will never be officially recognised. Pity really because it looks like so much fun. The story is explained better in the video commentaries.

At Uni, we so wanted a device that could fit in your palm and disrupt mobile phones, mostly because they kept going off in class or when ppl were driving, etc. They were annoying. Now, ten years later, you can actually buy such a device. For $166 USD you can have a unit that can fit in your pocket and disrupt phone for up to 10 meters. Perfect for lecture halls, movie theatres or even on the bus. Just have to be careful not to disrupt real emergency calls though but it comes with such disclaimers. As far as I'm concerned, this is worth every penny.

I picked up 'Tomb Raider: Legend', 'Scrapland', 'Battlefield 2: Modern Combat' and 'Metal Slug 4' for a total of $75 AUD. I'm tempted to go and hit the JBs in the city to see what titles they have - though most of them are rubbish, you don't mind when you pay $20 for them.
Apparently it's been confirmed that the Xbox 360 going to drop its prices Down Under. As of the 15th, Xbox 360 Pro consoles will be $579.95 AUD MSRP and the Core model will be $399.95 AUD MSRP. That makes the Xbox 360 Core the same price in Australia as the Nintendo Wii. The new 360s will come with HDMI output and hopefully the larger CPU heatsinks. The 360 Elite will be coming August 30 for $729.95 AUD and the Special Edition Halo 3 units will be coming September 20 at a cost of $679.95 AUD - which, for what is essentially a Core with fancy paintjob, makes it a $180 AUD paintjob. Think I'll save my money. Although we're still paying $100 AUD more for our consoles than the Americans, its still a welcome break and makes the Core system affordable.

Now you can get the Premium Xbox 360 package for $349.99 USD ERP, Xbox 360 Core System for $279.99 USD ERP and Xbox 360 Elite for $449.99USD ERP. Unforutnately, no comment was made about Australia, so we probably won't see any price cuts for a long while (which would mean $60AUD off the $650 AUD price tag).

This is what I need - The Thunder Horn, an electronic bike horn that boops at 115 decibels. In comparison, a Jet Plane is 120db, a chainsaw is 115db, and a car horn is around 110db. Yes, this thing is slightly louder than a car horn, guarenteed to move oblivious pedestrians and shock obnoxious drivers.

Something I've thought would have been a great idea ever since I first got my SONY Minidisc player way back in 2001, was a way to use it to store digital files. Mind you this was when zip drives were the only way of storing up to 250 MBs and CD burners were too expensive to buy. But now Buffalo decided to branch into Optical Memory instead with the MO-PL640U2. What you get here is 640MB of storage space per disk - more if you're using DVDs. The system appears to use normal optical Minidisc which are fairly cheap these days. But in this day and age you can buy a 4GB memory stick for under $50AUD - Why would you want ot bother with a paltry 640MB? Bunus points for effort, but too little far too late.
