Why Firefox?:
Since people these days like to bitch
about "Best viewed with XX", I thought I'd explain why, aside from
advocating a great piece of OSS, I don't think
the movement is dead.
Purely Aesthetic Reasons why you should use Firefox:
- Firefox renders the site correctly (unless you've turned on 'always make frames resizable'). Older versions of Netscape have been known to mess this up.
- Firefox supports progressive JPEG encoding; IE does not. This means you'll see a low-res version of images before the image is completely downloaded.
- Firefox CORRECTLY supports PNG, including alpha channel. IE does not support alpha blending, and has a tendency to gamma-correct PNG's, thus displaying something that was NOT what the artist intended. This is why I don't use PNG on this site.
Important Reasons why you should use Firefox:
- Tabbed Browsing. Once you've experienced it, you won't want to go back.
- Built in popup blocking.
- Firefox is generally regarded as one of the most secure web browsers around.
